Essay is an opinion from our perspective into paragraphs. If you want to write an essay, you will have to follow the steps to write it in order to be excellent. An excellent essay is a perfect essay, everything must be right in writing an essay. Making a good thesis statement, shaping the supporting paragraphs, and ending the paper with the right way are the steps to make an excellent essay.
First of all, you have to write an introduction paragraph before you discuss the content of your essay. The most important thing that you have to pay attention is making the thesis statement or the main idea of your essay, so that the readers can understand what topic that you want to explain, and your essay will be more organized. But remember, you cannot give so much information; you just make a sentence clearly.
Making a thesis statement must be as simple as possible, not too short, and not too long. It must be a sentence. According to the Pathways book written by Joyce M. Jarrett, Margaret Giles Lee, and Doreatha D. Mbalia “Simplify formulating a thesis is not enough. It must be effective.” It means a short thesis sentence does not mean can be called as a simple thesis; it depends on the effectiveness of the sentence.
Make a specific thesis statement is the best way to make the reader comprehend what topic that you will discuss. We cannot write the sentence only in general, you must be simplified as clearly as possible. So, the reader will be arranged well in reading your essay. The reader must know your aim or topic that you will discuss in that clear thesis statement without saying the words that you are going to discuss about the topic, such as “in this paper I will discuss …”.An effective thesis can guide the reader with the points which will be discussed in each supporting paragraph. As the most aim, it is for paragraph in order to be more arranged as well as possible.
The second step is shaping your supporting paragraphs. According to the Pathways book, there are 4 concepts that can help you to form your paragraphs and support your thesis statement: the topic sentence, paragraph development, paragraph unity, and paragraph coherence.
You have to make a topic sentence in each of your paragraph, because it can help to tell the reader what is the main idea on the paragraph. So that, the reader will digest and they only focus on the topic of one paragraph that you write.
Developing your paragraph is also important. You have to define some details to support your topic sentence because if one paragraph just have a topic without its details, it is not enough to develop your paragraph. So, you can add some of it. According to the Pathway book, you can also express your feelings, inform, or persuade the reader.
You must make sure if your paragraph relate to the topic sentence. You cannot write any other ideas in this paragraph because the reader will confuse and cannot get what your purpose on your essay. Relating the topic sentence with the ideas is important, so your ideas do not out of line.
According to the Pathway book, organization and transition are two important things in order to cohere the paragraph. Organization means you must organize the ideas on your paragraph as well; do not make the ideas off from the topic. Meanwhile, transition is that each of the paragraphs must be related to one another.
The last step is ending your essay or usually we called it conclusion. Making a conclusion is important too because if the essay do not have a conclusion on the end of the essay, it cannot be called an essay. According to the Pathway book, the conclusion emphasizes your main ideas. It means you can write down or re-write your thesis statement and your main ideas, but the sentence cannot be the same of course, usually we called it paraphrase. The purpose of a conclusion is to show that this is the end of your essay.
There are some of ways to ending your essay, but according to me, people are more often to write summarize of the major points, asking the question, making a prediction based on your opinion, and giving suggestion to the reader. Remember, not only thesis statement that must be effective, you also have to make a conclusion as effective as possible to ending you essay.
An excellent essay is an essay with a clear thesis statement. Besides, there are also 3 steps that you have to do. Making a good thesis statement, shaping the supporting paragraphs, and ending the paper with the right way are the steps that you have to follow in order to make an excellent essay.
